Welcome to our seed LIBRARY

The purpose of the Seed Library is to establish an ever growing and curated depository of fruit, vegetable, flower and herb seeds at no cost to the Leonia community and to provide information, instruction and programming about sustainable gardening.

Choose Your Free Seeds!

  • You must have a valid Leonia Library Card and be at least 18 years of age to request seeds.

  • Request your seeds by emailing us at leoncirc@bccls.org or calling us at 201-592-5770 (Press 2). Make your selections from the Seed List below.

  • We will notify you when your seeds are ready for Doorside Pick-up. You may pick up seeds once a week.  There is a limit of five types of seeds per request.

    ENJOY YOUR SEEDS!

  • Edible crops should only be planted in soil that has been tested for heavy metals.

  • Using raised beds or containers with clean compost or soil is recommended.

  • After you’ve requested your seeds, please feel free to share what you have grown to our Instagram or Facebook, with the #leoniaseedlibrary. We can’t wait to see what you’ve grown!

    Please note:

  • The Seed Library contains different varieties within each of the listed seed categories.  The seeds you receive will be a random selection from the seed type you have requested.

  • Quantities are limited and availability varies.  Substitutions may be made if the seeds you requested are not available.

  • These are donated seeds and may not be re-sold.

The Seed Library accepts donations of fruit, vegetable, herb and flower seeds from commercial companies, seed banks and other local partner organizations with a shared interest in seed collection.  Donated seeds are packaged commercially and not listed as invasive species or noxious weeds by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture. At this time we are not accepting seed donations from individuals.
